KITCO was engaged by Military Engineer Services (MES) as the consultant for ‘110kV Hybrid Sub Station at Naval Base, Kochi’. Southern Naval Command aims to upgrade progressively its infrastructure facilities to meet the emerging challenges. At the end of 2025 the maximum demand is anticipated to increase from the present demand of 9.2MVA to 20MVA. Hence conversion to EHT is mandatory to meet the future load demand. It proposed to have a 110kV Hybrid Substation with 25MVA system capacity considering the land limitation. This is the second Hybrid sub-station project by KITCO after CIAL Hybrid sub-station, which was the first of its kind in Kerala.
A hybrid sub-station is characterized by a compact and modular design, which encompasses several different functions in one module, thus reducing the space requirement. The Main receiving substation is designed to construct one no. of 110kV incomer feeder from Katari Bagh 110kV substation of KSEB and 2 nos of 110/11kV,10/12.5 MVA power transformer with Bus Isolators. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) is incorporated for ease of operation and maintenance from the control room and for remote monitoring.
